Obama Administration Steps up its War Against the Catholic Church

The latest salvo in the war between the current administration and the Church has been fired.  Priests are being threatened with arrest if they celebrate mass on military bases.  Catholic chaplains have been furloughed due to the current government shut-down.  OK, that’s not OK but it’s understandable.  What is outrageous is the government’s threat to jail Catholic priests who VOLUNTEER to celebrate mass for Catholic troops.

In a story from Fox News, Todd Starnes outlines the current state of affairs.  “At least one chaplain was told that if he engaged in any ministry activity, he would be subjected to disciplinary action.”    Catholic baptisms and weddings have also been banned.

This is a blatant effort on the part of the administration to discriminate against Catholics who have volunteered to serve their country.  I wonder if the same ban is in effect for Muslim clergy?  What do you think?

  1. Wrong. No one was going to jail, no one was going to be arrested, no marriage were banned, no baptism refused. It is the Fox news network which jumps b/4 they know where they are going to land, again. They make news up while in their air.Thursday all public information was clarified. Just Fox again– creating panic by themselves.

    • I guess the Huffington Post is in cahoots with Fox News. Everyone knows how conservative they are. Nice try, Terry, but there are too many sources on this story to blame it on Fox News.

  2. Well Michael the first I head it came through Fox on early Tuesday morning. When I arrived at the chapel it included also the contract and GS ministers. Later it included a brides mother who phoned in who had a daughter’s wedding scheduled in the Chapel for the weekend.[Guess she then called her Nv politicans] By Thursday it all blew away and contracts were on available list. So I heard it first for me at Fox. It was just a continuation of their unsettling reports. I know not of Huffington as all social Hollywood info as far as I am concerned.

  3. If I question something I hear on Fox (or any other “news” network, I do a simple Google search to see if anyone else is reporting on the story. In this case a number of outlets, both conservative and liberal were reporting on this story. I also found a statement by the Military Archdiocese verifying the report.

My suggestion is that you not take anything you read on the internet as gospel until you check other sources. Bottom line, what I posted was verified through a number of sources, and I included links to several of them on my post. On further review I noticed I failed to include the link to the Hufpost. Thank your comment that made me aware of the omission. Bottom line, this administration continues to target the Catholic Church. (Contraception coverage in nuns’ medical insurance?) We’d all be well advised to keep an eye on these things.
